Hi, I’m Maria, the artist behind Mardatha.

I’m an artist, illustrator and picture-book writer based in Athens, Greece. I love creating characters and visual stories, working with traditional materials, and exploring the space between writing, illustration and painting.

My work is inspired by nature, literature, childhood and the small, strange details that make a story come alive. I’m especially drawn to expressive colour, texture and the imperfect marks of handmade work.

I’m currently developing my own picture-book projects while continuing to explore painting, illustration and other forms of visual storytelling.
